As a part of construction of Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, the farmers have been properly compensated for their lands or part of their lands being used for the project. Have the farmers opted for wise investment of their share of the compensation? If yes, which sectors have been given preference by the farmers? Here is a short summary of the investments done by the farmers.
MSRDC has acquired around 9400 Hectares of land for the construction of Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. Around 20000 farmers have been collectively given a compensation of Rs. 6600 Crore for this project. The compensation being given is about 4 times the rate of Ready Reckoner. The farmers have been periodically educated about the wise investment of the compensation.
A survey of about 6000 farmers has been done in this regard. Results of this survey show that 18% of these farmers have already purchased agricultural land in other areas and 50% of farmers shall soon make the purchase.
6% farmers have preferred to invest in Farming Equipment and Facilities like Digging Wells, Irrigation Systems, Weighing Machines, etc. and 10% farmers have chosen Agriculture Aiding Businesses like Dairy and Poultry.
The survey also shows that 45% farmers have invested their compensation in different sectors like Fixed Deposits, Mutual Funds, Insurance Policies, Transport, etc. 74% of these farmers have also saved some amount of money for higher education of their children.
Apart from improving the financial condition of the farmers, the compensation has also managed to open new doors of businesses for the farmers and their families.
