After willingly consenting to giving their land for the Samruddhi Project, the various landowners from 10 districts executed their land deals with the MSRDC. Once the landowners received the compensation amount from the direct purchase scheme in their respective bank accounts through RTGS, how and where is the money is now being utilized? This is the story of how one such beneficiary, Shreemant Madan from Jalna district, utilized his compensation amount.
Shreemant Madan of Keligavhan village in Badnapur taluka in Jalna district is among the many beneficiaries of the Samruddhi Project.
Shreemant Madanâs family consists of six people – Shreemant, his mother, his two sons and two daughters. The boys have completed their graduation and twelfth grade education respectively, while the girls are still completing their education. Shreemantrao proudly tells us that both his sons help him with farming. Shreemant owned 3.5 acres of farmland. He would cultivate cabbage, tomatoes, brinjal, ladiesâ finger, jowar and maize crops – his piece of farmland was more of a vegetable garden! It was a routine job for him to grow these vegetables and sell them in the market. As an incidental business to farming, he was also into goat farming. Suddenly one day, he found out that his house and the farmland which was right behind the house are both going to be purchased for the Samruddhi Mahamarg scheme. Shreemant, along with the other villagers decided that they would not give up their piece of land, come what may. However, they slowly came around when they found out more about the scheme. 2 acres of Shreemantâs land has been purchased for highway project, for which he has received a good compensation. He had already decided that he would be purchasing another piece of land with this amount. He purchased a piece of land twice the size of the land that he gave up. He now wants to cultivate pomegranate and sweet lime in this piece of farmland, as well as jowar and corn as interim crops. He wishes to raise a vegetable garden once again. He also wants to construct a house, but Shreemant is determined to do so in his village itself. Shreemant tells us that he will continue farming in the original piece of land that remains with him after giving up a part of it for the Samruddhi scheme.
