After willingly consenting to giving their land for the Samruddhi Project, the various landowners from 10 districts executed their land deals with the MSRDC. Once the landowners received the compensation amount from the direct purchase scheme in their respective bank accounts through RTGS, how and where is the money is now being utilized? Ammar Sadik Kungale of Guravali village in Kalyan taluka in Thane district is among the many beneficiaries of the Samruddhi Project.
Ammar was the owner of an ancestral piece of farmland. He would earn a decent income out of the same. Everything was going well, when one day he found out that his farmland was going to be utilized for the Samruddhi Mahamarg project. Initially, he was shocked. There was a lot of protest from Guravali village against the Samruddhi Mahamarg scheme. The livelihood of every villager depended upon agriculture, and Ammarâs family was no exception to that. Ammarâs family includes his parents and six brothers. Everyone was into farming. They would mainly cultivate rice and gram crops in their farmland. Kungale familyâs annual income was close to âđ10 lakhs, because which when they got to know about the Samruddhi Mahamarg scheme, initially they too heavily opposed it. However, they started coming around as they got to know more and more about the said scheme. A total of 92 gunthas of their land was used in the Samruddhi Mahamarg project, for which they got a compensation amounting to âđ 2.75 crores. Out of this amount, they collectively purchased 5 acres of land at different locations around the village. They tell us that these pieces of land have been bought as an investment. They also plan to buy a piece of land in Guravali village near the farm. They also want to purchase a plot near Khadavli station and are working towards the same. Ammar says that they plan to invest the rest of the compensation money as well in buying farmlands. He is optimistic about the fact that with the construction of this highway, in the future the family would be able to easily transport their agricultural yield faster to Mumbai and elsewhere in Maharashtra.
